Update on How States are Collecting and Using Cause of Injury Data, 2005 (PDF file, 138 KB) - The Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists, in collaboration with APHA's Injury Control and Emergency Health Services Section and the State and Territorial Injury Prevention Directors Association, has collected and summarized 2004 information about state-based injury surveillance and external-cause-of-injury coding guidelines and practices.

E-code Grouping Look-up Tables 1994-2003 (Zipped, 439K). This is version 1.4, posted in August, 2004. This is a direct link to a zipped Excel '97 spreadsheet-based listing of ICD-9-CM 'injury' E-codes and their associated mechanism and intent groups (matrix) as defined by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Its purpose is to enable research analysts to add intent, mechanism and short descriptions of E-coded cases to datasets based on matching the proper spreadsheet table region (data year) to the E-code field in patient data. This is a file released to the public domain by staff and faculty from the Center for Injury Research and Control at the University of Pittsburgh.

The National Violent Injury Statistics System (NVISS)
Data Elements for Emergency Department Systems (DEEDS). The National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) is coordinating a national effort to develop uniform specifications for data entered in emergency department (ED) patient records. The initial product is DEEDS. The recommendations in DEEDS are intended for use by individuals and organizations responsible for maintaining record systems in 24 - hour, hospital-based EDs throughout the United States.
The Health On the Net Code of Conduct (HONcode) is an initiative to help unify the quality of medical and health information available on the WWW.
Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Codes This is a code table developed by the US Department of Labor to classify industries.
Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) Codes This is a code table developed by the US Department of Labor to classify occupations.
Australia's SportSafe has developed a range of resources and tools to help sporting clubs, sports trainers, sports medicine professionals, facility managers and schools collect useful information on sporting injuries.
